Oh, the anticipation!!

Rescue and Rehabilitation

Sammie gets a new lease on life! I know for sure we made the right decision, even though we miss her at times. It seems joining a new “pack” was just what she needed to shape up.

It also sounds like she’s receiving wonderful care, and is well on her way to finding a new family. What a wonderful organization. We are very grateful to them.

Reunions

Last week we had a reunion of epic proportions at our house. Bob, one of Michael’s two best friends from high school, scheduled a trip out to see us for his 30th birthday. As a surprise for Bob, we convinced Jerimy – the other piece of this triple threat – to come out and see us as well. Through various white lies and admirable acting on our part, we managed to keep it a secret until the moment we pulled up to the airport terminal to pick Jer up. It was – as they say – priceless.

The last time these three had a reunion such as this was when Bob lived in New Orleans, almost exactly 6 years ago. The day Michael was supposed to return home, I got a phone call early in the morning.

“I won’t be flying in today,” he said. “It may be a few days. Just turn on the tv.”

“Why?” I asked, very confused, having just woken up. At first I thought he was joking, just wanting to extend his visit. “What are you talking about?”

“They’ve closed down all the airports.”

All the airports? I don’t get it, in Louisiana? Wait, the whole country? Why? What is going on?” I kept asking questions he seemed unable to answer.

“Just turn on the tv and I’ll call you back in a little while.”

I turned on the television just in time to see an airplane crash into Tower Two of the World Trade Center. I spent the rest of the day in bed. Michael spent an extra week in Louisiana. And all around us, the country began spinning out of control.

Steve is there!

Our neighbor across the street (Steve) is the best! He’s a retired guy, who spends a lot of time out front, keeping an eye on the neighborhood and washing his truck. Every day. He’s really the greatest. And now, he’s our own personal landscaper! Michael and I don’t have a lawn mower, plus we hate anything to do with lawns due to allergies and just because it stinks, so we hired some guys to come do it. When Steve found out, he offered to do it for us instead. (But yes, we do pay him!)

So, long story short, we now have an acceptable looking yard, so I took some pics. I promised I’d show you the green.

Here’s a portrait Eric took of Michael and me at an outside lounge on 6th street during SXSW.

DEF LEPPARD & JOURNEY!

Turns out they’re not retired (or dead ha ha). Michael and I went to the concert with Jess, Paul, Julia and an empty seat for BOB since it was his birthday (LOVE YOU BOBBY! :) More funny than anything else, it was rad to rock out to the best of the 80s power ballads.

Michael’s cousin Jason turned 30 August 15th. His wife Tiffany and her family threw a great weekend celebration for him at their fabulous cabin in Pioneer. Like the forgetful people we are, we didn’t take any pictures of their amazing place. But we took a few shots at the lake where even Sharon went Jetskiing. It was a very fun day! Thank you very much Tiffany, Mike & Lisa for a very enjoyable weekend! You are so hospitable (and your food is delicious too!).

I did not see you there!

Connie visits M&S

Here are a few photos of Connie’s visit here in August. We made her do yard work and then took her to the lake.

Saying Good Bye to Anna

We all met up at Claim Jumper on Thursday to start off Anna’s non-stop party weekend. She is loved so much that we had to have 3 parties just so everyone could say good bye. Friday night we all hung out at our place – BBQ, camp fire, Midnight river hike, and I even slept on the roof. (by myself). Thanks to all her friends that showed up and helped out.
