Acuna, MX Kids

I (Michael) went to Acuna, MX with Go Fish Ministries last weekend to help build a church. These are 3 of the local kisd who hung around to help us out. At the end of the weekend I gave them each part of my gear, my gloves, hat and Sunglasses.

Snow Bunnies

About 10 inches and counting up here in Foresthill, CA right now. We’re officially snowed in at the moment. Brrrrrrrrr. Hit and miss on our internet connection and we haven’t taken many photos so far. We’ll do better later this week!

Thought I would update on what’s going on around here. Not much. But some stuff.

Two weekends ago, in the midst of welcoming Jess & Paul to Texas, we completed our advanced scuba training. I had fully intended to tell you all about it. But we neglected to take photos (well, we planned to take them the second day of training and then forgot the camera) and I feel like I can’t write about our life unless there are photos to go along with it. Even I get bored with our website!

Our training was out at the Lake Travis scuba park. Not quite the visibility we’re used to in our young scuba career (about 8 feet tops) but it was great for training purposes. We learned to fully rely on our compasses for navigation and even managed to navigate a perfect square and triangle by plotting our headings and counting our kick cycles (are you impressed?). We did search and recovery training, so if you happen to drop something or someone over the side of the boat, we can probably find it/them. We did a night dive. A deep dive. And practiced our buoyancy skills. We’re getting pretty good.

We also took a can of Vienna sausage down with us to feed the fish on one dive. This is quite the experience … if you enjoy hundreds and hundreds of fish swarming around you and running into you with their slimy scales. And mistaking your earlobes for sausage. We’ll definitely take video next time we do that. And I’ll wear a full wetsuit and hood, thank you very much.

Last weekend, we planned to go diving at the dam at the lake, where we hear there is a sunken airplane. But Michael had an ill-fated encounter with our new Slice Wizard the night before and lost a good chunk of his thumb. So we were forced to spend the weekend lounging around in the pool (Michael holding his hand above water in a never-ending thumb’s up sign).

Last Saturday was our 11th anniversary. No fanfare this year, just some good old-fashioned family time. Wouldn’t have it any other way!

I see a theme …

My sweet tooth precedes me …

This time a FedEx man brightens my day.

Thank you Jess! :)

Workin’ 9 to 5

Finally earning his keep around here.

No napping!

"Under the Sea!"

Michael swimming in Maui and filming a big daddy sea turtle. :) Oh, that’s the turtle singing the soundtrack btw. And just out of frame is a red crab playing the steel drum, I’m DEAD serious!

Make sure you watch Michael’s filming technique when the turtle goes up for a breath.

The weather and ocean are just beautiful. Whales are on their way in, and you can hear them from underwater. It’s magical!

We’ll try to upload pics all week. We got a new underwater casing for the camera so we can take great pics and video while we snorkel. And then put them to music for your viewing pleasure and our own amusement.

A whole day old!

We got to visit Sarah and baby Alexis in the hospital again today. If it’s possible, I think she’s even cuter than yesterday. Like always, I made Michael hold her as much as possible. Partly for practice, but mostly because it just makes my heart smile.

Sarah is doing amazing, just a wonderful mom already! We are so proud of you, Sarah. And her hubby Michael is sure to be a wonderful dad as well.

I have to say, this is by far the best time I’ve had at the hospital for as long as I can remember. No one asked me to wear a gown or expose my backside! No one gathered my pee in the toilet to make sure I was going as expected! No one ever asked me my name, or why I was there, or when my birthday is, or who my insurance carrier is – not once!

No one offered me intravenous drugs though, which was kind of disappointing ;)

** PS: For our guest readers who might be confused, I’ve had five back surgeries in four years, so I have a bit of history with the whole hospital thing! **

Baby Alexis Micaela Tretter – Born at 5:40 pm. 7 lbs 0 oz. 20″ – Very healthy and beautiful!! Mom is doing great.

We are home! (Well, our Texas home) We survived the holiday travel! We’re nearly recovered now.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I wish we were there with you, but we are in spirit. We love you!
